The Dairy Factory

The Dairy Factory

The Museum is housed in the former Mercury Dairy Co-op Dairy factory.

This exhibit houses the only known Anderson Butter Churn to still be in its working space.

At the heart of the Museum and the exhibition space is the Anderson 65 Butter Churn – this is the original butter churn that was in use here in the factory and is in its original working space. We have a working model of the butter churn which explains the process of creating the butter that was exported in the kahikatea-lined butter boxes.

A timeline of the dairy factory along with a list of the suppliers and other business information is also on exhibit.

Walk to the end of the ramp and watch a typical day in the life of a butter factory in New Zealand – with school children visiting and watching the large churns turning around them.
